The abundance of water and wildlife is a great drawing card for Silver Creek. The 1972 "Grand National Mixed Bag Hunt" was attended by astronauts, actors, major league ball players and Olympians, including General Doolittle, Dusty Rogers, Jim Olt, Roy Rogers and Bob Fellers.
Recreation
Camping with electrical hook-ups, swimming, playground, baseball and softball fields is available at Silver Creek Park. Area softball and slow pitch ball for youth and adults provide area residents with relaxation and companionship. An annual July 4 horseshoe tournament is held at the Vine Street Mini Park.
Water Sports
The Platte River, Prairie Creek, and Silver Creek provide area residents with fishing, canoeing, boating and hunting. Fisher's Cove also provides camping, fishing, boating, paddle boating and a bait shop for the outdoorsman.
Other
Movie rentals are available at S.C. Country Market and Town Mart in downtown Silver Creek. Come to the Legion Hall on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. and enjoy a friendly game of Bingo.
Local Celebrations
- 4th of July - A golf tournament is held at the Silver Creek Park and a horseshoe tournament and community potluck dinner are held at the Vine Street Mini Park.
- Halloween Costume Party, sponsored by the ABC Club, is held on Halloween at the old school gym. Cash prizes are given and supper is served to children and parents attending.
- An Easter Egg Hunt is held the Saturday before Easter at the Vine Street Mini Park. Prizes are given at this annual event sponsored by the ABC Club.
